The Dozer Trail begins at the base of the Manitou Incline and switchbacks up the hillside to the north. On our way up the Incline last summer, we watched this trail being built. At the time, we weren't sure of its purpose, but couldn't resist checking it out. Manitou Cacher said that this trail forms part of the dozer line cut to contain the Waldo Canyon Fire. As far as we know, the trail has no official name, but given its history, we're calling it The Dozer Trail.
From the cache, if you continue up the trail a short distance to the top, you'll see a sophisticated shelter made of stone and mortar. It is occupied. Welcome to Manitou's Hooverville.
Paid parking is available along Ruxton Avenue. From the trailhead, the hike is about 3/4 of a mile and 400 feet elevation gain. My apologies for the micro, but anything larger would be too easily spotted.
