This is the second hide of a new series by the Rosecrew. RC Summit Series. Each cache in this series will be hidden near the summit of a Mountain / Rock. We will be placing more as time and weather permits
This cache is located near the summit of Soldier Mountain. You must summit the Mountain in order to find it. It is a short steep hike that requires NO equipment. Soldier Mountain has a prominance of about 192 feet. The cache is located at 9,223 feet elevation. There is a foot path that is obvious once you start climbing to the summit. As always be cautious as Bears and Mountain Lions have been seen in the area.

To get to the base of the Mountain you will need a 4x4 with high clearance, be cautious in the winter as roads could be icy. Our jeep could have taken us all the way to the base but we stopped about half way in and hiked the rest.

This mountain is unranked, but we will dedicate it to all ranks in all branches of the U.S. Military! Thanks to all who serve!!

************Congrats to Hartsdale on the FTF! **************

Late spring day. Very tranquil up here. I too am attending a men's retreat at Quaker Ridge. I love being up here and being romanced by my Creator.

"Big Al 2511" and I attended a church men's retreat at Quaker Ridge April 8th-10th. During free-time on Saturday afternoon, I hiked the west slope from the camp to the cache, but Al had a painful leg and didn't join me. A favorite point for the hike, beautiful scenery, and the container. Dipped a bug and a few coins. Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache for me to find and enjoy!

This was the goal of the hike (at least for me, the huggle probably wouldn't agree, puff, puff) because our son is a Marine. After finding #3 down the hill we made a fatal error. I followed my GPS that said the road we needed was down the hill to the North. We hiked down there only to find no intersection. So back up the hill we hiked to see if there was another road going west. Sure enough when we looked closer that was actually a 4 way intersection and not the 3 showing on my GPS. So down that road we hiked and it took us straight to the Mountain. The hike up was steep but we went off the road (hillside scar, really), avoiding the granite roller bearings the vehicles churn up & made our own switchbacks through the forest. The views were great and we paused for a moment at the cross. I look forward to more treks to these smaller peaks someday.
