CONGRATULATIONS TO Comat0se FOR THE FTF ON THIS CACHE! Please note that the next seeker should bring another Rx pill vial and paper log as a replacement. Gnawing rodents seem to enjoy these containers when they are placed in their immediate living area. Thanks for helping me maintain a cache that is special.
There's a Ranked Peak that is 1.1 mile south of Walker Mountain that has no "official" name designation. It's at an elevation of 8,940 feet, but even that height is not specified on USGS maps. It's actually higher than Walker Mountain. Over the years, this highest point of a gradual ridge has been colloquially called "Walker Crest". More recently, it's been referred to as "Gold Ridge".

Golly, this topographic feature ought to have a name that everyone accepts and consistently refers to. Henceforth I will refer to it as Walker Crest. There are already too many "gold-in names" in these hills of Boulder County.

I approached Walker Crest in the winter, directly from the south. I made the hike on snowshoes in deep snow. It was an exhausting 1600 feet of elevation gain up steep terrain. But the Trails Illustrated map for this area identifies some straight-forward 4-wheel drive roads that can get you very close to Walker Crest when gates are open and roads are passable. So you might schedule your assault on this cache during times of the year when you can drive (or easily hike) close to it. I don't suggest that you try for it during mid-winter, as I did, unless you are intent on punishing your body. The terrain rating assumes an approach during summer months.

Once at the summit, relax and appreciate the views. Then locate the cache. It's hidden under a large rock about 30 feet east or northeast of the actual summit. Look for a medium sized camo-painted pill bottle.

Enjoy your adventures getting to and finding "Walker Crest"!

Hiked on over from Nugget Hill. It was the logical thing to do, since I was already up here, though it's always a struggle to continue back uphill after losing elevation, even when it isn't too much. The hike was pleasant enough, though I was surprised to find the trail snow-covered almost the entire way from the saddle. The trail up to Nugget Hill was almost completely dry, though I admit it's more exposed to the sun. I was very grateful to the person whose footprints I followed up. I only had to break trail in the rare cases when the footprints wandered off the trail inexplicably, only to return a few hundred feet down the trail.

I actually followed the footprints straight to the cache. I expected a note in the log, though I was marveling at the unlikeliness that the cache would have a recent visitor after over a year of inactivity. But no, there were no new signatures in the log. Could it be a benevolent, but mysterious cache protector? Unknown. After signing my name and replacing the cache I sat down for a snack and watched the sun setting over the continental divide.

Thanks for bringing me here. Maybe someday I'll hike the whole crest along this trail and beyond.

I'm grateful to RDAD for his maintenance activities at this cache. With the new container he placed at the coordinates and the log record that he included in the cache cylinder, this cache should be good-to-go for a long time into the future. THANK YOU!

I hiked in today and found the Aquafina water bottle and ziplock left by the previous cachers. I thought their condition could be marginal, so I brought along a replacement container...a 1.5 x 7 inch cammo tape covered tube. I left a copy of the cache page and online logs to be used as the logsheet. There is a pencil and a pen in the cache now. The GPS coords were right on. Thanks for this placement!

Not sure if the cache has actually been replaced yet, but I couldn't find it. I didn't look TOO hard, as I was only there for the summit, but turned around empty handed. Bushwacked up the steep slope from Lefthand; found an overgrown (old mining?) trail down.

What a beautiful day for a hike! It could not have been more perfect. Took the dogs and had a great time. Too bad we only found the lid. I'm glad we had something to replace it with. We'll be back soon to look for the others in the area.
