Wear your Hiking Boots! It’s about 2-2.5 miles, one way, to the cache site and you'll be starting at almost 7,000 ft or so in elevation. Amazingly, you'll have to go uphill regardless of which end of the park you start.

This cache is located in the Jefferson County Open Space White Ranch Park. You can either park in the east parking lot off Hwy 93 or enter from western Crawford Gulch side (my suggestion-park in the upper lot). The JeffCo Openspace website will give you a complete map of the park to help with driving directions and trail names. The trail intersections are well marked with wooden sign posts. https://www.jeffco.us/1437/White-Ranch-Park

The “Out of a Lark” cache is located about halfway along the Mustang Trail. Irrespective of your starting point, you are going to follow the Belcher Hill Trail until it interconnects to Mustang Trail. The final resting spot is slightly off the main trail and, of course, uphill. Finding the exact location is up to you.

Plan your hike accordingly; the park opens one hour before sunlight and one hour after sunset. (I personally would not want to get caught out there after dark-it gets really dark). If you’re really determined and can’t find our cache on your first try, camping is allowed if you visit JeffCo Open Space a little bit in advance. They’ll even give you free firewood to help keep you warm while you’re thinking about where in the world the cache could be. There are restrooms located at the trailheads and the campsites. Leashed dogs are permitted if you’d like to bring your Geo-Rover along to help find the cache. You may need him, we tried to be tricky….

Enjoy the hike!

My faithful dog Dubarry and I had an awesome 7-mile, 11-geocache hike around White Ranch Park today. It's always terrific to play hooky from work on a weekday and get out and do something like this. Thanks to the CO for helping make it possible - and with such a bit of hard work and creativity! Awesome cache - it gets a fav point for sure.

Could not for the life of me get it untangled in order to sign the log. I do have photographic proof of actually being at the cache that I can provide if needed (do not want to post photo here on log for spoilers). Thanks for the cache, it definitely deserves this favorite point.

Drove over here from Denver to grab some of these caches. Got settled in the parking lot around 10:30am and started my adventure. Roughly 8.5 miles and 4.5 hours later, I was back at the car. Found 15/15 caches and was happy with my day. Every cache was found in good condition. The trail was very well-marked and was one of the least muggle-filled ones I have been on since moving to Denver. Overall, great day. Thanks for all the caches.

Nicely done on this cache! Earns a favorite. Lemonheadmafia waited on the trail for me but when I spotted the cache I made him come up to see it. Sl, thanks!

Great day on the trail in White Ranch Open Space.
Found all 10 caches I was looking for.
Thanks for hiding these and making the game so much fun!
If I could, I would give this 2 Favorite points: 1 for location and 1 for the cache itself.
Great artistic hiding!

Amazing cache to start a great hike as I cleared up the last of the caches in White Ranch. This one definitely gets a favorite. I traded bugs as well. TFTC. On to the next.

Well, today was a day of renewal for "Out on a Lark". We conducted a full overhaul on the cache. Full replacement of the structure, a brand new logbook and a refresh on the items contained within. We put two dogtag trackable in the cache to send them on their way. One was stale (sorry-my fault), the other brand new. Please visit and send them along their way.

The old cache stood up to the mountain weather for almost 9 years before it gave up the ghost. I hope the new one will be enjoyed by everyone venturing out for a little hiking and geocaching in White Ranch.
