Day 2, 3, 4, and 5 of my 5 day trip to Ramona
I woke up in Ontario, OR where I had spent the night in the back seat of my car at a truck stop and got my coffee and started driving at 0730. I hit One in OR and then crossed back into ID to payette. So I grabbed Payette, Canyon, Ada, Elmore, Camas, Gooding, Lincoln, Jerome, Twin Falls, Cassia, Minidoka, Power, Bannock, Bingham, Bonneville, Jefferson, and then Clark county Idaho. I then jumped up and grabbed my first and to date only MT cache in Beaverhead county ... I had to dig in the snow a little bit the coordinates were spot on. I then jumped back down into Idaho and grabbed Madison, Fremont and Teton counties. I then jumped into WY and grabbed Teton and Lincoln counties there. I wish I would have thought about dropping off a TB in the TB hotel Cache I found, but I’m an idiot. I then jumped back into ID and Went to sleep for the night.
I woke up and then got a cache in Caribou, Bear lake, and Franklin before heading into Utah. I then got a cache in Cache county!!! That’s right there is a county in UT called Cache county!! And then I got Box Elder, Weber, Davis, Salt Lake, Utah (yep UT county Utah), Carbon, Emery, Grand, and finishing out with San Juan County before jumping into CO.
I jumped into CO and looked for a Delores county cache close to the highway that I entered in on, but didn’t see one ... except one that was 8 miles away so I went to go get it. 3 miles from the cache came a familiar green sign, but this one said “San Miguel” I though oh well, that’ll work so I grabbed it, got back on the highway and drove down to the cache that was near the highway, but there came another green sign but this one said “Montezuma” so o turned and headed for the nearby cache out in the sticks. It was only a 75’ walk from the car but I did get to see deer bouncing on the road in front of me as I drove down to get it... that was a lot of work to get a cache I was just driving through. But then I got my Delores county and finished with the Montezuma one I was headed to anyway. And then I drove to the 4 corners.
I made a right at the four corners but it was blocked by a gate. On the sign it said. Closes at 4:30 pm ... well I thought. That just isn’t right. This was the first real destination of my trip, and they are closed. How do you close a national monument. Well you know how sometimes you start to do something extremely stupid and then you get that little voice in the back of your head that starts screaming at you to stop, well ... I didn’t hear that voice .. not then! So after kicking the lowest barbed wire stringer and being unable to move it. I thought, well ... it will hold my weight. Yep! It did and I hopped over the barbed wire fence! And proceeded to walk towards the monument. About half way I noticed something in the full moon light. It was a trailer ... and it seemed like someone lives there... and then I noticed the big Fenced in pen. Was that why the barbed wire fence was so small.. to keep something big in?!?! My heart started pounding and I stopped in my tracks. You know that little voice. I could hear it THEN. But then it was to late to turn back... I hustled as quietly as possible, got my photos and hustled back to the car ... stopping every so often to listen and see if those phantom snarls were real. I got back to my car in one piece!! Folks, don’t try that!!!
So the monument gave me Apache county and I grabbed one in Navajo and went to sleep. I got up the next day and got Coconino, Yavapai, and Mohave county before heading into Nevada. I just grabbed one in Nevada in Clark county and headed into California. I grabbed San Bernardino, Riverside, and then headed to my second stop. The lowest incorporated city in USA. Salton City, I grabbed 10 in Salton City and slept there. I woke up and went to The oldest CA cache, and then grabbed some in Tijuana, and then headed to my hotel in Ramona to start my new job.

We are driving from Moab to Monument Valley and couldn’t resist the call of Colorado! This was the closest cache we could find to the border so it had to be done. We drove the long straight road to Egnar and found the cache. Woo hoo! Another state on the map. Greetings from Ireland TFTC :)
