Greyrock Mountain (elevation 7,613 feet) in Larimer County has a highly distinctive profile from Interstate 25 and other eastern vantages. Its steep southern aspect shows dramatically in silhouette as seen even as far east as I 25. Many admirers of this Ranked Peak do not realize that the mountain’s lines from other directions are also remarkable and highly distinctive. Views of this mountain from various directions are breathtaking, and each provides a special profile dimension of Greyrock and its numerous ranked peak neighbors.

In June 2010 I published the first in a series of caches about these distinctive directional profiles: "Profiles of Greyrock Mountain--Northeastern View" (GC26C63). The series grew to include 10 caches plus a mystery cache that requires visits to eight of these original caches. The profile caches became popular with serious back-country geocachers and those original caches, plus others I've created in the Greyrock Mountain area since that first one, now comprise more than 20 caches.

EXPLORING THE PROFILE PEAKS OF GREYROCK MOUNTAIN–WEST WSW VIEW

https://www.jigidi.com/created.php?id=rvi3wdus

This is a view from along Greyrock’s Meadow Loop Trail, showing Point 7231 (a.k.a. “West SW View” Profile). Reaching it’s summit requires a serious off-trail hike up fairly steep terrain.  If you make this challenging hike to its summit be certain to also find the rarely-logged cache near its top (GCB79K).

The main Greyrock Mountain has a number of fine Traditional geocaches and EarthCaches along its summit trail that provide excellent caching experiences. One, GC2KH12, Profiles of Greyrock Mountain–Eastern View, is a part of the original profile series and should be sought after by those of you planning to reach the summit.

After you place the final piece of  the Jigidi puzzle a "completion" message will provide the coordinates of this cache as well as a solid hint for finding it. The hike involves 4-5 miles round trip, much of it on a well-used trail.  Enjoy the puzzle and the cache-finding experience.  As a personal reward, plan and make a climb of Greyrock Mountain or of some of its satellite peaks that are featured in the Profile series and nail other caches along the way.

I solved some of the Profiles of Greyrock Mountain--Jigsaw puzzles over the weekend and decided to go for a winter hike today to see if I could find them. The weather was so nice I ended up having to take my jacket off as I was sweating despite it being the middle of February.

I had 7 caches on my list for today (Profiles of Greyrock Mountain--Jigsaw #3 through 8 and Profiles of Greyrock Mountain--Orizaba's Overlook). I ended up finding all but Profiles of Greyrock Mountain--Jigsaw #8. There was quite a bit of snow at GZ there which made the search more difficult. I'll be back for #8 but may wait until spring.

Thanks for placing this great series. Fun fact: Before today, the last time I found a cache in this series (Profiles of Greyrock Mountain--Western View GC2KRKN) was 4,671 days ago! I'll make sure not to let that much time pass again.

Thanks for the cache!

I saw the publication notices Profiles Jigsaws #5, 6, and 7 when they came out this past Monday evening so on Tuesday I solved all three puzzles. Going for the finds would have to wait because Denali41 and I, along with our three labs, went down to the Parker area on Wednesday and had a great day of caching there. I had thought I'd get up to Greyrock and make the finds yesterday but an invitation to hike a peak west of the Hewlett Gulch trailhead today with Denali41 and three of our muggle friends made for a great opportunity to make one less trip to the area. So I joined them in hiking up Point 6485 to the west of the Hewlett Gulch parking area. After an enjoyable hike up that peak with my good friends, I parted ways with them and headed to the Greyrock trailhead.

Setting off up the trail, I had intended to get the three new Profiles caches plus the two Profiles caches that had been published a week ago and the two Denali41 caches on the north and east flanks of Mt Webster.. I later found out I had failed to load those latter two caches into my GPSr. When I returned to the trailhead I had successfully found the five Profiles puzzle caches and three of them were First to Finds.

With the potential of snow moving into the area this afternoon I decided to hike to the highest of the caches first and work my way back down. The hints were all very helpful and led to quick finds at each location. I was pleased to find a blank log in this container and happily signed the log in the {FTF} position.

Thank you Denali41 for this very nice series of Jigidi puzzle caches!!!
