This multi-stage virtual cache is more mental than physical and is totally walkable from the parking lot. Don't feed the birds!
This virtual cache is intended to utilize some of the lesser used capabilities of your GPS. Before starting out, read all the instructions below and be sure you know how to perform all the functions you will need. It might even be worthwhile to dig out your instruction booklet and take it along.

The coordinates above are for the parking lot.

Be sure your unit is set for the WGS84 datum and a heading choice of TRUE.

I suggest that you set your unit up to read in metric units because it affords better precision than English units when reading decimal miles or kilometers. However, for metricphobes, I will include English units thusly: 0.201 km. (0.125 mi.), but be prepared for more error. In case your unit only reads to 2 decimal places, round off the number.

Since these waypoints are all located close to each other, I also suggest that you navigate with the GOTO pointer display rather than the map display.

Note: Snow on the ground might hamper your progress.

Coordinates are given for 3 light poles around the park:

P1= 39 58.356, 105 15.085
P2= 39 58.321, 105 15.056
P3= 39 58.348, 105 14.981

I suggest you walk around and locate them in the above order.

When you get to P3, start walking in a straight line back to P2.

Observe pole P1 on your right as you walk toward P2. When a wooden streetlight pole lines up directly behind P1, stop and mark this position. This is P4.

From the P4 position, enter a new waypoint P5 which lies .271 km (.169 mi.) away on a bearing of 45 degrees from P4. Proceed to P5. (Don't get your feet wet.) Record the name of the small country you find spelled out when you arrive at P5.

From P5 begin walking on a course of 34 deg. Stop when you arrive in the center of a 30-foot diameter circle. This is P6.

From the P6 position, enter a new (and final) waypoint P7 which lies .638 km (.396 mi.) away on a bearing of 216 degrees from P6. Proceed to P7. (Don't get your feet wet.)

When you arrive at P7, look around for a metal sign.

Using the code that "1" is the first letter in the top line of the sign, "2" is the second letter, etc, decode this:

27 19 32 32 8 27 27

You will immediately know if your calculations were successful.

E-mail me your answer and the name of the country to verify your success.

With waypoint data gathered from this cache, you can move on to the "Ball Bearing" cache.

What does a party animal like me do on a Friday night? I call up my geocaching friends @2lablovers and @intrepiidexplorer and convince them to spend the night in Boulder, Colorado looking for hidden treasures. That's what I do! We wandered up here with a list of 28 caches. Most were on the west side of the city and a few were at NCAR. Started with an FTF and managed to grab a puzzle, a virtual, an earthcache, and many traditionals. We ended the the night with the virtual. By then it was around 10pm and time to migrate back toward Aurora. Five hours of caching fueled by Starbucks and McDonalds. La vida loca.
Wow, wow, wow! I have avoided this one for a while because it looks like a lot of work for a 2.5/1 cache. Now I regret waiting. It was a total blast. Because there were several of us and were were working on this at night, we used teamwork to solve P4. Then we re-formed to our mob of motley cachers and continued to follow the clues. I don't have a GPS, so we used our geocaching app (2LL used Cachly) and toolbox to project the coords. It worked well. But the whole time I was suspicious that I messed up the calculations and we would arrive at our false final only to discover that I was wrong. But alas, after over an hour, we were done. Now I can tuck coord projection into my geocaching tool belt. TFTC!

Caching with @LostinDenver and @intrepiidexplorer tonight in the Boulder area. This was definitely the hardest virtual we have ever done. So glad we were with LostinDenver and intrepiidexplorer because they provided all the brain power on this one. We all held our breath as we made our way to the final waypoint, wondering if all the calculations were right - they were !!!

LostinDenver sent in answers for the group. The terrain for this one should be more than a 1 since we definitely needed to walk over a mile (we ended up driving because it was a little far). This was a lot of work, but we had fun! Thanks!

#41988 Found while out grabbing a few caches around Boulder this morning before heading to the airport to fly home. Really enjoyed visiting Colorado for the Thanksgiving holiday. This was a fun virtual to work through. Followed all of the directions easily and found all of the necessary intermediate stages without any problems. Even found a traditional cache in the park along the way. Smile Great tour that involved a lot of different orienterring skills. Email with answers sent. TFTC

It was a lovely (if a little hot) day for a walk around this beautiful park. I found the final okay, but read the decoding instructions wrong, so it threw me for a while, but I got there in the end. I need this one for a virtual matrix challenge I'm working on, but it's a great cache in its own right. Thanks!

TFTC I'm still figuring out bearing and distance calculations.

TFTC I'm still figuring out bearing and distance calculations, so for me the title was appropriate.

Write this is a unique, and difficult virtual. Good thing we are a caching duo as well as more brains came in handy! The answer (we think) has been sent but it was a pretty confusing code so we guessed on it a bit. We never had an "aha" moment like previous cachers unfortunately. TFTF answer sent!

These guys pestered us the whole way.

Whoa ... not an easy virtual! Thankfully I was with BerkeleyBoomers as we took turns rallying each other toward the next stage. Previous logs made it apparent teamwork is necessary, & we can totally verify that's true! Excited to be logging the hide as found - whew!

Caching in Colorado with Team 5-12: Day 5. We came here for the Earthcache Mega Event on Saturday, but stayed a few days afterwards to find some interesting caches.

Not an easy virtual find, but we enjoyed the challenge. WARNING: do not attempt this cache alone. You will need a partner.

Thanks for the virtual cache!Thanks for the virtual cache!

Found with lindholc today. This took us a long time, but was in a nice area. Thank you for taking the time to plan this cache!

Found with sneezlepuss. We went around the park a few times because we were having a lot of trouble with P4. Eventually one of us stood by P1 to tell the other (via phone) where it looked like we ought to be because it was rather hard to see P1 from the other way around. There was a lot of arm waving and I'm sure it looked rather bizarre. We eventually found what could have been P5, found P6 from there, and made it to P7. It was a lot of fun, despite all the confusion. I had never been to this part of town before. Thanks for setting all this up! (Email with confirmation stuff sent.)
