CONGRATULATIONS TO SILVER TREKKER FOR FTF!!
There’s a peak very close to the north side of Gold Hill Road that’s identified on the USGS Quad as “9081" It’s never been given an official name, so you might label it “X9081". That’s also its elevation above MSL. But colloquially it was known for many years as “Mount Soprano”. I don’t know the origin of this name. Perhaps it stems from a prima donna soprano who has sung once or many times in the nearby mountain community of Gold Hill, whose inn sponsors the “Murder Mystery” play series that involves performing artists as well as paying guests in unforgettable experiences. Go there for a fine overnight adventure at the inn.
When one recalls the remarkable singing artists who have made special recordings in this general area (consider those who have been to the "recording studio” at near-by Caribou), there might have been a soprano who spent a period at the Gold Hill Inn, entertaining the patrons who braved their way up steep roads after booking their night at the Inn and witnessing that soprano in action as all participants solved the mystery du jour. I don’t know.
But mysteriously, in another dimension, “Mount Soprano” has had a recent name change. It’s now referred to colloquially as “Knob Hill”. I won’t venture a guess about the reason for this change. I’ve been to many “Knob Hills”, but to only one “Mount Soprano”. I prefer to conjecture about the naming of the latter. You should do this, too. Using the Soprano theme might coerce you to do some historical research on this neat area. Perhaps “Knob Hill” will, too. But I doubt it.
In any case, enjoy the area, and appreciate your relatively short hike. It’s an easy one compared to those required by most Denali41 caches. Close to the summit of the “Soprano” who sings on Knob Hill, you’ll find your log sheet treasure. Don’t look for the cache in the rock walls at the actual summit. That would waste your time. The coordinates should be pretty accurate. Enjoy your find, and listen to that soprano who has lured you to the cache. She’s the special siren on “Knob Hill”.
