The Wheat Ridge Volunteer Fire Protection District (WRFPD) founded in 1926-1942 and covered 12 square miles in Jefferson County. Serveral neighboring communities merged together between 1971 to 2016.
The most current merger of WRFPD was with the West Metro Fire Rescue. Both districts had been working together on many fires and other emergency calls. They even trained together. The voters decided a consolidation would save money so they officially merged in 2016 and became West Metro Fire Rescue (WMFR).
WMFR serves mostly the NE part of the district which includes Wheat Ridge, Lakewood, Edgewater, Mountain View and Lakeside.
Be alert, sirens and speeding vehicles can become active at a moments notice.
