On a bluff overlooking a valley a few miles south of Timpas. Look around to find fossils. It's a few miles from the nearest town, but mountain and animal viewing and birding opportunities are worth the drive. At Timpas, turn south on D Avenue. You'll drive on a good graveled road first through Cemetery Allotment then Rock Fall Allotment. Eventually, you'll come to a corner on the good gravel road, but you will drive south on a dirt road that follows a fence line. Depending on the time of year, you'll have different visual opportunities: snow-capped Sangre de Cristos in the winter; in the early spring, you might view prairie chickens and their mating rituals, lark buntings, meadowlarks and long-billed curlews; in April and May, chollas bloom with fuschia flowers; during September and October, numerous tarantulas cross the highways and gravel roads; and at any time of year you might see pronghorns, burrowing owls, red-tailed hawks, and nighthawks. Always be on the lookout for rattlesnakes.

09/30/2015 By Wallacem0027 Great drive! Make sure you have high clearance vehicle because two track is a little worn. Cache looks like it's in good shape.
01/01/2014 By Wrencachers Found Geo cache. Great way to start the New Year. Original containers bottom was completely gone so left another one next to it. Look for the snowmen. We love Pokemon. Found it in less than a minute. Great view and great hike.
