This series of caches is located west of Hotchkiss, Colorado near the Pleasure Park Recreation Area. This is a favorite spot where I take my dogs to run amuck! They have a ton of energy and are able to run freely without being on a leash! Many other locals use this area for the same purpose; humans and pups getting some exercise!
I decided to place a few caches here because the area offers some great overlooks of the river, adobe scenery and the occasional wildlife sighting. This series will take you on an approximately 2.5 mile walk through the “dobies.” The area is open year round, but walking out here can be obstructed due to weather conditions. During the spring/fall mud season the ground is very slippery, so use caution during this time. The terrain is varied with elevation increases and decreases, but the path follows a two-track trail. The loop may also be driven, but I highly recommend a high clearance, 4-wheel drive vehicle or an ATV.
This is the fourth and final cache in the series. This is a neat spot, about halfway through the loop, with many questions. This dilapidated “structure” has been here for as long as I can remember, but I never remember it actually being used. What was it used for? Who used it? How long has it been out of service? I’ll let you speculate and use your imagination. Please feel free to leave your thoughts in your log!
Although this is the last cache in my series, there is another cache further down the trail towards the end of the loop called Going to the River?????? (GC2WRD6). Grab that one while you're in the area!
***I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THAT TRAVEL ON FOOT PAST THE THIRD CACHE IN THE SERIES BE ATTEMPTED ONLY IF THE GROUND IS DRY, FROZEN OR SNOW COVERED. THE ADOBE MUD IS VERY DIFFICULT TO TRAVERSE***
Congrats to Team kekj for the FTF!
