CONGRATULATIONS TO Barasaur FOR THE FTF!!

THIS IS A PUZZLE CACHE. IT IS NOT LOCATED AT THE LISTED COORDINATES. Do not go there. Instead, read details about the cache below, have fun discovering the locations of the transformer cabinets, and then calculate the coordinates for the physical cache.

Fort Collins’ residents and visitors are blessed with a diverse array of interesting art forms viewable from public vantages. Each has been created by a local artist. This puzzle is one in a continuing series that requires locating specific art works or related structures (such as publicly-displayed clocks, unique buildings or conspicuous features, transformer cabinets) that are shown in photographs. Each is within the city limits of Fort Collins. Once found, simple arithmetic or other manipulations of the object’s coordinates need to be made in order to calculate the actual location of the cache. Others of my puzzle caches of this genre include:

GC40N9R What Time Ya Got, Fort Collins?
GC3F8DW Ride a Painted Pony
GC20VW5 Disneyland.... Here?
GC4VJZ3, etc. Where ART Thou, Fort Collins? [Series]
GC5JJZE, etc. Transform Yourself, Fort Collins [Series]

Ten pieces of  art on electric transformer cabinets  in Fort Collins are featured as images through photo hot links on this cache page. Each is assigned a unique letter. To calculate the cache coordinates you will need to find the locations of all 10 of these transformers. Finding certain transformer cabinets might be challenging, but by pursuing them you will probably learn more about The Choice City and its amenities. Enjoy your hunt!

A TRIBUTE TO MooseTag AND HIS MOOSE PALS

After you have discovered the location of each transformer determine it’s Latitude. Then use the .X00 (tenth) digit position of the Latitude’s decimal minutes in the simple equations below to calculate the coordinates of the physical cache container and its geocaching treasure: its log sheet! For example, if the Latitude of the cabinet  is N 40° 32.671, the number to use is “6". Do NOT round up unless specifically instructed to do so for a particular photograph.

A = ____________________________Place        ______Latitude Digit
B = ____________________________Place        ______Latitude Digit
C = ____________________________Place        ______Latitude Digit
D = ____________________________Place        ______Latitude Digit
E*= ____________________________Place        ______Latitude Digit
F = ____________________________Place         ______Latitude Digit
G = ____________________________Place        ______Latitude Digit
H*= ____________________________Place        ______Latitude Digit
J =  ____________________________Place        ______Latitude Digit
K = ____________________________Place        ______Latitude Digit

P=D-1

Q=E-3

R=A+H

S=J-1

W=C-4

X=H+F+1

Y=K-G

Z=B+1

The coordinates for the cache are:

N 40° 3P.QRS

W 105° 0W.XYZ

[*A NOTE ON TRANSFORMERS “E” AND “H”. THE TENTH DIGIT POSITION OF THEIR LATITUDES IS CLOSE TO A CHANGE FROM ONE DIGIT TO ANOTHER. IN BOTH CASES,  USE THE HIGHER OF THE TWO POSSIBLE DIGITS!]

Enjoy learning more about The Choice City as you seek out the locations of the 10 transformer cabinets needed to solve this puzzle. It’s a darned nice city, and this cache should enhance your familiarity with certain of its special dimensions.

I extend my appreciation to DES, whose caches in the “Where Are You...” series inspired this puzzle cache.

I've watched this entire series all the way from its publication date.... I figured 'no way could I ever find all those!' but I worked on it on and off. However, a refocused effort this year has resulted in finding some in the transform yourself series... one by one, another was found. Slowly the pieces were put together, and eventually, all but one was left. This one! Having to really work for this one, and it being the last of the series made it all the more rewarding. Not entirely sure if the math was correct, went to go hunt for this one.

Getting to ground zero, I was worried for a minute, as I found an almost undoubtedly cache like location, but it was empty. However, right nearby, lonely and waiting was the cache! It tried to grow legs, but luckily it didn't have long ones. Even removed from it's home, the cache was performing its duty and revealed a dry log. It was nice to have a little extra bit of excitement to finish this series and it only adds to the story. Returned it to its proper home and it should be good to go!

Sent Steve a few notes on this one, but as with all in the series, I highly encourage finders to give these a go! Finishing the transformer series comes with a big smile and a sense of pride, and a much better understanding of public art around the area. Thank you so very much for these, and I look forward to working on the other series next. SL

Didn't plan on going back out geocaching today as I had other plans for my afternoon off. However with the day being so nice, if maybe a bit windy, we went back out to see if we could finish this series. We had a lot harder time with finding the right coordinates for this cache but we managed to narrow it down to a few locations. We started at the location that was nearest to our location at the time. And what good luck we had today. It was there! But it wasn't quite that simple. We found where it was supposed to be hidden. With a little poking around nearby I found it half buried in the dirt. Dug it out and, after signing the log, placed it back where we expected it belonged. I'm happy to say that we are now officially done hunting the boxes, even though they do still constantly draw my eye to the side of the road while driving. I look forward to starting work on some of the CO's other similar series. TFTC|SL

Found this one in the drizzly rain. Now we are home watching it snow. We are really enjoying this series. TFTC

Before the recent snowstorm I spent time checking many of my urban and farm caches and making any repairs that were necessary. This cache and the transformers are in position. The cache awaits finders.

After and enjoyable breakfast with Tahosa and his family stopped by this location and made a "permanent" replacement of the cache container with a Bison tube. Hopefully it will now stay in place. Be certain to replace it on the hook.

Logging with permission of CO since original container was the victim of a landscaping crew. We've enjoyed solving these and admiring the sometimes obscure transformer artwork that is all over town. Yet another benefit of geocaching! Thanks for this wonderful series!

I'm in this area frequently, so it was no trouble to stop by and sign the new log. Didn't find a log sheet, so put one in. Thanks for checking on this one so quickly, and thanks for a very challenging and enjoyable series!
