Captain's Log; Stardate 2003.010

There must have been a transporter malfunction. We materialized quite some distance from our intended co-ordinates of N38 52.128 W104 45.619 and 160.63m higher. The location is on the side of a hill and is exposed to view so we proceeded to cache the toys, mark its position, and return after dark. I placed the cache into a natural rectangular opening in a sandstone formation and covered it with the dried fallen foliage of nearby vegetation which our scanners identified as "pine trees."

Our mission was to repair a temporal anomaly. A package of toys had accidentally been removed from under a Christmas tree. Historical records indicate that the intended recipient of those toys was devastated by awakening that Christmas morning to find nothing under the tree. He grew up to be another politician who paid no attention to the will of the people instead of becoming the chemist who first synthesized Trilithium Chloride -- and we all know how pivotal that discovery was to Federation history!

Unfortunately, our tricorders were unable to establish a sub-space beacon lock so we had to rely on signals from radio transmitters of that era. A channel was opened to the ship's computer and the database of radio broadcast transmitters was accessed. We used a tricorder to fix our location by recording bearings to three such beacons. Bearings to those beacons are as follows:

Station callsign Frequency Bearing from the cache Distance
KTLF 88.7 MHz 164 degrees true 9.70 km
KRDO 1240 kHz 091 degrees true 4.64 km
KXRE 1490 kHz 321 degrees true 4.74 km

All stations were within 10 km so signal strength was within nominal operational parameters. The proximity of the stations and their geometry make for effective triangulation.

The historical database indicates that some primitive tricorders called GPS receivers actually have those same station locations stored within them so finding reciprocal bearings should be childs play.

I have been ordered by Starfleet to proceed to Starbase 12 to investigate reports of Suliban in the vicinity. All available Starfleet personnel are hereby directed to make routine visits to this cache to insure its safety until such time as our original mission can be resumed. Avoid all contact with local inhabitants while in the immediate vicinity of the cache.

Lt Smith informs me a pink hair ribbon inadvertently snagged onto the branch of an indigenous pine tree almost immediately above the cache container.

...End Captain's log.

Over two years lonely! Gampa had given this a quick search about a year ago with no luck, but gamma found it pretty quickly today. The container and log look brand new. Signed log and replaced container as found. Thanks for the cache.

Have no idea

No joy today. I found a bunch of pink ribbons that had been ripped and were on the ground. Checked every rock pile I could see within 75 feet of my GZ (and where the ribbons were) to no avail. I hope this one is still here! I was excited to find it! This was my 2nd of 4 DNFs today on fun caches :(

The Pink Ribbon?

The triangulation worked well, certainly close enough for government work! All was dry inside the cache.
I have been aiming for this one for cache #1000, and that worked out well. The puzzle was fun to work through, the hike was pleasant, it was a good find, and a great view. I found a place nearby to sit and just soak up being there on such a beautiful day. Thank you, Gil&Ani, for maintaining this cache and for a memorable outing.

Today we visited the site to replace the log, container, did general cleanout, hung a new ribbon, and restored all to as close to original as we could. It seems the Gambel Oak are thicker that last 50m than last time. Heartiest congratulations to all who have found this most challenging cache over the years!

Hint: just a bit down the hill from the really big pointy boulder.

We made an early morning hike specifically to find and log this cache. Outer and inner containers were both full of water and soggy. I didn't have a replacement with me or I would have changed it out. TFTC

Thanks for the fun puzzle cache! This was a toughie all around! Today kjklock, the critters and I did a fun hike in the area and this was on the nearby solved puzzles in my GPS. We made the stop and after a long search finally made the find. We all signed and stamped the log. The log was dry and well. The area still had a good amount of snow which hampered our searching abilities, but not too bad. Thanks for placing this fun cache along the way!

I've looked at this one for a while, but never got around to doing the plotting required to solve it. Apparently, RPieperCO had, because it was on his list of caches to find while we were in the area today. The hunt for the final was pretty tough; 3 adults and 2 kids searched for quite some time before I finally found it. This container had not been found in over a year. The outer container had a bunch of water in it, but the inner 35mm container had kept the paper nice and dry. I dumped it out and re-hid it as found.

This is day 960 of our current daily caching streak. Thanks for helping us to extend it by another day.

TFTC!

Saw that this one had been found and a little maintenance was performed on it so it was time to go for a walk and find it. It'd been to this area before but wasn't totally sure of things, rounding errors made me have three possible areas (about 100 foot apart). Getting into the area was easy, a nice hike where I get to view nature a little. I started the search and went from where a landing party might have been to a less likely place. Boy, I 'm glad I fly in a Firefly rather than trust transporters; a terrible place to land but great for a cache. Description was ball on. TFTC.

Ribbon restoration; wet log replaced - new one is in a film can (remember film cans) inside the main container for additional waterproofing. May replace the main container with something more waterproof as long as we don't violate the Temporal Prime Directive.

Fun hike and find of this one and others in the area with sassydil and animjason. The views are incredible from up here. Dropped a TB. Thanks for the fun!

Main target for me today as this now gives me enough 2003 for a challenge. Found with sassydil and nerak, was tough but we got it. Thanks for keeping this one alive!
