Are you a die hard geocacher? This challenge will task your planning, skillfulness, fortitude, and celebrate geocaches that have survived in the wild for more than one year. Your mission, if you accept, is to find 33 caches on their 1st year or later birthday. Only Traditional, Unknown, and Multi-caches count. And you must find at least ONE of EACH of these three types on their birthday.

You can accept the mission at any time by going to the posted coordinates, finding Spruce Willis, and signing your username to the sign-in sheet. A “found it” smiley can only be claimed after you have completed the mission and receive a successful result on the challenge checker provided below. Copy and paste the "example log" output from your checker result in your log, not the lengthy entire script output please.

PGC Checker

On your found it log, please post fun and interesting experiences you achieved completing this challenge. Such as:
What's the oldest birthday cache you visited?
What was your favorite (or least favorite) geocache for this challenge?

Congratulations for being a die hard geocacher! Yippee ki-yay______________!
Congratulations to Edwards654 and 2lablovers for being the first to complete the Die Hard Challenge!

As usual, your caches blend well. It couldn't possibly be where it is. Can it? Of course it can.
Exciting day. I witnessed the end part of a robbery and spoke to the police for a little while. Then my caching day finally begun. It is cold, but not too cold. I walked a bike path for several caches and ended up with 6 for the day.
Here are my qualifications:

I found this one with LilRyRy and CDRSheppo on our way home back from an event. It took a little bit of searching before I turned the right direction and spotted it. I discovered this challenge and started working on completing it last month, so I had to find it now that I qualify. Thanks for the challenge!

Checker says I need another 18 birthday caches but I signed in on this one today... another one to add to my list of target caches!

Found a couple more to satisfy the challenge and finally got around to signing the log today. Thanks for an interesting and fun challenge and for fixing up the checker. Cheers.

The new and improved checker is now live. It will give the results of your test and let you know what and how many caches you're missing if you don't pass. For those that pass the challenge, please include just the "example log" results in your log, such as...

I'm forwarding a request to Project GC to update the checker. Although it appears to be calculating correctly, it is listing duplicates in the result. The duplicates are only counted once, but it is confusing for users. Also, I am requesting the checker give a result of what and how many geocaches are missing when they don't qualify.

I think there's a problem with the coding (see below) of the checker. It correctly checks for 3 birthday caches being a traditional, a mystery and a multi. I think it then checks for either 30 traditional birthday caches, or 30 mystery birthday caches, or 30 multi birthday caches.

{
"challenge": [
"find 3 caches with unique type where (type == 'Traditional Cache' or type == 'Unknown Cache' or type == 'Multi-cache') and hidden_month_day == visitdate_month_day and hidden_year <> visitdate_year.",
"find 30 caches where (type == 'Traditional Cache' or type == 'Unknown Cache' or type == 'Multi-cache') and hidden_month_day == visitdate_month_day and hidden_year <> visitdate_year.",
"fulfilled with unique caches.",
"fulfilled with unique caches.",
"output sorted by type table hidden as 'Hidden Date', visitdate as 'Visit Date', type, gccode, cache_name as 'Name'.",
"if fail output 'sorry, you have not fulfilled this challenge GC82B5V yet'."
]
}

sorry, you have not fulfilled this challenge GC82B5V yet

So I have 33 birthday caches, with a traditional, an unknown and a multi. I believe that satisfies the challenge.

Co-FTF with Edwards654 at 6 pm. We were so excited when this challenge came out. We love challenges and after a quick glance we were sure we qualified. Ran the checker, ready to run out the door to get it. What??? We don't qualify?? Read the description over again and realized it was the lack of a darn multi that was stopping us. I knew skipping all those multis would come back to haunt us ! Checked the birthday page by DustyRiver and saw there was a multi on the 28th that we could get with our friends Edwards654. We got it - quite an adventure - you can read about that at GC7HMDV. We headed up the freeway to this one.
Now it is dark and very very cold. We tromped thru the snow to the large tree covered with snow. Edwards654 had the perfect tool for removing some of the snow and we searched and searched while our hands and feet became frozen. We had begun to have doubts when at last it was spotted. Hugs and cheers all around as we struggled to make our fingers work opening the cache and signing it. Thanks for making this a very memorable cache !

CO-FTF at 6:00 p.m. with 2LabLovers.

Oh the stories the 2lablovers and I could tell about our adventures to acquire this cache. We both needed the same "qualifier" cache and today was THE DAY to go get it. HOWEVER, then came the blizzard! So we decided to cancel our rendezvous plans and wait for the next "qualifier" which would be in late February. But when a sliver of sun peaked through the clouds in the afternoon and, despite frigid temperatures, it was game on. We nearly froze to death crawling in the snow looking for the final in the multi, to say nothing of both Lab lovers slipping on the ice and landing flat on their backs. But did that stop us??? Heck No.

So it was across town after dark, through snowy streets, parks and trees to this cache. Needless to say, the host and its neighbors were laden with snow. "We can't see the cache if its hidden in the snow...but if we knock the snow off, maybe we'll inadvertently knock down the cache. And are we at the correct host?" Cold and shivering in the dark, we were SO, SO, SO excited when George said those wonderful, warming words "HERE IT IS". We could barely get the container open and write our names. But we know that on a sunny, warm day this is a wonderful cache in a wonderful location.

Thanks, I think, for the challenging challenge, and the hide.
