Another interesting spot along the historic Arkansas River Conduit
The Arkansas River Conduit was constructed in 1904. Snaking for 40 miles across the prairie, it brought water from the Arkansas River to ponds that provided a ready water supply for the huge Colorado Fuel and Iron steel mills in Pueblo. The channel was an open canal most of the way, but in some spots it was lined with concrete, in other places it was a concrete tube, called a siphon, that brought the water across the bottom of canyons or low spots. In other places the water flowed through tunnels cut through bluffs. The conduit was in use for more than 40 years. Now it's an often mysterious ruin.

This cache can make a 'two-fer' w/ the nearby 'Call Our Bluff' cache!

I looked for this one for way too long, but I was determined not to have to come back and search again at a later date. So I persevered, got pretty scratched up on my arms and legs thanks to all the vegetation, and finally spotted the container. Just a heads up that since there isn't a real trail to this there are lots of awful little sticker plants on the walk to this and the "Call Our Bluff" cache (at least in the spring/early summer) that will tear up your socks. SL, took metal wing, left red plastic gem. TFTC!

Working my way back down the road from the end.

Hiked over and spotted the container quickly.

Thanks for the cache!

I had to come to Pueblo today for a recall on my truck. It was 20 degrees when I got up and 75 this afternoon. Only in Colorado! After the recall repairs I hunted a few caches. I had a pretty good day except for losing my prescription sun glasses. A few minutes after I jumped into the sea of tumbleweeds I noticed by sunglasses were not in my pocket. I spent the next 30 minutes wading around trying to find them. I finally gave up not having found my sunglasses or the cache. If anyone finds them around here please let me know. There will be a reward involved.

I think I know where this is hidden, but I wasn't willing to wade through the tumbleweeds without some sturdier clothing. I'll be back with jeans and gloves.

Quick find on a caching day that went from brutally cold to mild and back to brutally cold. Arrived at this one after climbing the nearby bluff and took a quick look at the logs. Saw that this one hadn't been found in about 1.5 years so read a little further and saw the last cachers to log it described a broken container. I grabbed a replacement and headed to the correct location to find a sea of tumbleweeds exactly where my GPSr was pointing. I dove in glad that I had brought my gloves and worked my way around the likely hiding spots until I finally found the container which was indeed worst for wear. I transferred the swag into the new container I brought and replaced it where I found the original. I removed the broken container so all is good to go...TFTC SL

Nice hide. The container was starting to crack, so I wrapped it up with camo duct-tape to seal it and extend its life.
