The monument, looking like a granite tombstone, dubs the road leading through Hardin as "The Lincoln Highway," and points out the Twin Butt Campgrounds of 1859.  The stone was placed in memory of George and Fannie Hardin, who came here 140 years ago and after whom the town named. 

The road next to the monument was once a stagecoach road, then the original U.S. 34, leading from Fort Morgan to Greeley. When the new highway was built a quarter of a mile south, the old road was all but forgotten. The only people who drive it now are going to Hardin or to the nearby 70 Ranch.
